Provocarteur

Provocarteur is a monthly publication about art and activism. The concept for this project was inspired by the political graphics in Milton Glaser’s Design of Dissent. As playwright Tony Kushner mentioned in the book, “so sophisticated is our understanding of how little we understand and how vaguely we understand, that a toxic cynicism pervades our spirit, shutting down our capacity for faith, for hope, for imagining change— and consequently shutting down our passion and our imagination.” But the truth is, graphic design has an undeniable restorative power. As Kushner says, “great designs, that employ shock, wit, and clarity borne of urgency, can move people to action, acts of courage and sacrifice, overcoming habit and fear.”
